Who we are
If you are viewing this, you have probably experienced frustration by now trying to get your book published. Deciding on the best option to get your book published is not an easy decision. It requires learning how the publishing world works which takes study. How exactly do I get my book published? Wait, I have to find a literary agent to even submit my work to a publisher? How do I do that? And if you do enough homework, you finally learn that traditional publishers rarely, if ever anymore, take a risk on new authors without a massive following of people lined up to buy their book. You learn that the industry has changed to where the quality of a writer's work is being overlooked to produce books by authors who are more influencer than writer. An experienced industry insider expressed the sentiment that C.S. Lewis probably wouldn't have gotten a book deal in today's publishing environment because he wouldn't have had enough followers on YouTube. We exist to see to it that quality authors don't slip through the cracks.
You've tried the traditional route or don't feel it's for you, so now what? You start searching and you find publishing companies that you have to pay to publish your book. Wait, you don't pay me, I pay you? That isn't what I had in mind when I started writing this book. You discover the term 'vanity publishing' and learn that you're paying someone to publish a paperweight that no one will ever read.
You then learn about independent publishing and it seems like the best fit for you, but you aren't sure that you're up to the marketing aspect of publishing your own book. It's a world in itself to learn, but at least you won't have to shell out thousands of dollars for your paperweight if you go this route. But how do I get my book in front of the people that genuinely would be interested in my book if they could find it?
Wind and Wheat Fields Publishing (WWFP) is here for the books that deserve to be in reader's hands but the author doesn't have the means to get it there. We are every bit as 'full service' as a traditional publisher, and function much in the same way that they do. There are two main differences between WWFP and a traditional publisher:
#1. We create a market for your book. In other words, we specialize in working with authors that traditional publishers are overlooking. Those authors who don't have influencer status or a massive following which traditional publishers require but have a manuscript that deserves traditional publishing treatment. WWFP is looking for quality books. Influencer status is not required. Is your book in one of the categories in the what we publish section? We would like to look at it. To be clear, we are not a fit for everyone. Our aim is to get behind exceptional books that we feel comfortable committing money and effort into ensuring the book gets into the hands of those it belongs.
Vanity publishers have never seen a book they didn't like. They hope that your book will sell and they're sure to tell you that they're confident it will. But at the end of the day, it isn't as important to them that your book sells as you might think. The reason is very simple -- they've made money off from you by the fact that you paid them to publish your book. If the book sells, it's gravy for them. They are fully aware that most of their books aren't going to sell. It's their business model to get your money whether they believe your book will sell or not. We are not a vanity publisher.
#2. Our financial arrangement is different with you, the author than a traditional publisher's would be. We do not pay you a book advance. The book advance is the reason that traditional publishers are passing up better quality works for those written by a mindless YouTuber with millions of followers. It is too much of a financial risk to them to pay you an advance if you don't have a proven market lined up to buy your book. We put the money that a traditional publisher would have paid you in an advance into marketing and creating your audience. Yes, we too are taking a risk that your book won't sell, but less of a risk than a traditional publisher would have taken after paying you an advance.
We are experienced at creating a market for books and our business model is taking a risk on those books we feel deserve to be in print. We enter into a partnership with our authors where we share in the revenue of the sales and you, the author earn a rate higher than you would have with a traditional publisher and less than what you would have if you self-published. Similar to a traditional publisher, we do not require you to invest any of your own money to work with us. Please see our section our business model in the menu for more specifics on our financial arrangement with authors.
